About This Spot

Stepping into The Tav feels like crossing into a well-loved neighborhood retreat where familiar faces mix with the steady hum of good conversation and the clatter of pool balls. This is the kind of place where time slows just enough to savor the simple joy of gathering, whether it’s to catch the latest game, unwind after a long day, or share a few laughs with friends around the bar.

The mood here is unapologetically casual — a lively bar and grill that doesn’t fuss over pretenses but invites you to settle in with an easy smile. The space itself surprises, revealing a warm energy inside that stretches beyond its unassuming exterior. Comfortable booths flank one side, ideal for catching up over drinks, while the opposite corner houses a pool table, setting the stage for friendly competition and playful banter.

Food at The Tav is the kind that feels like a hearty nod to classic bar fare with a distinctive twist. Whether you’re digging into smoky sliders layered with tangy coleslaw, savoring the punchy flavor of carnitas and green chile nachos, or building your own burger to hit exactly the right note, each dish carries the spirit of a shared moment. There’s a grounded, satisfying quality in every bite — from crispy onion rings that invite dipping to fish tacos that feel like a local favorite passed down with care.

The drink selection complements the atmosphere gracefully, offering familiar comforts like the easy-drinking San Tan IPA alongside crisp ciders, keeping things refreshing without overwhelming. The bartenders and staff add to the welcoming vibe, their friendly presence making this spot feel more like a gathering of neighbors than just a place to eat and drink.

While you might hear some laughter rising above the music or notice the playful rattle of pool games in progress, there’s also a quiet corner for those moments when you just want to watch the world drift by or dive into a good conversation. This balance of lively and laid-back is what gives The Tav its distinct pulse — a pocket of Phoenix where the pace matches the warmth of the people.

Whether it’s the backdrop for a casual lunch with friends or a spirited night out, The Tav invites you in with the comfort of a place where everyone eventually feels at home.

Fantastic food! Excellent bowls! Dive bar setting with loud music, pool tables. Table was sticky and service on the slow side. IDs checked for all- not just those drinking.

Some tea time . I was at the tav on Dec 20th 2025 around 8 pm to 1 am around that time . So I was enjoying my time like usual. (I come about once a week) great bartenders great people but on that nice . The owner boyfriend came in the bar . He sat at the end of the bar. I'm came by myself . So I saw him alone I started talking to him . Normal conversation. But then I asked him a question that got him pretty shook . (What is your race?) He is obviously white or something but I was making the convo last . Then became silent He went to the back of the bar. (Mind you he had 2 or 3 drinks already) told the bartenders not to service me . I only had 2 mug glasses. He went back to his seat I asked to order another drink they said no I been cut off. I know the bartenders they are all awesome. He was following rules from what the owner boyfriend had to say. I'm not giving this place1 star for that one problem I had. Because every time I go I really do enjoy myself. This post is for the owner.please tell your boyfriend that he does not run this place and he can't be drinking and deciding who can't drink and who can when he is under the influence as well . He really made me not want to go back because that. I'm afraid if I come back in he going kick me out for no reason or maybe he just don't like black guys but i don't wanna assume anything. Just please please tell your boyfriend he is not the dam owner . He is dating one lol

This place is my home away from home. Looks can be decieving; it looks small on the outside but the inside has a magical energy that can't be matched anywhere else. Ed is the best server ever. The woman who runs the karaoke is also the best!! Lovely people, lovely place, I wish I could live here. Try it out ASAP if you haven't been yet! If you get lucky, you might even meet Elvis

Our group (4) came in on a Saturday for lunch. I had been here before, once, and was just as impressed both times. This place is set up to be mostly suited for groups of 4 or less, although you could push tables together if needed. It is split into two sides, with the bar side with booths on the left and the pool table (1) side on the right, with both sides having dining tables. We spent $20-$30 each because it was a weekend and we each had 2 drinks - one could spend $15-$20 per person if you came for lunch during the week. This is a casual dive bar, maybe a step above, with an extensive food menu and really tasty food (both times). They also have quite a large offering of food and drink specials. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is clean, the staff is friendly, the beers are COLD, and the food DELICIOUS. I had a custom burger with tater tots, the burger was huge and delicious. I thought the side was a dressing for the tots but it was the mayo I ordered for my burger fyi. My Husband ordered the 3 Sweet Heat Sliders with onion rings which he downed in minutes. Our friends shared the Carnitas + Green Chili Nachos - after a while of both eating from the same plate it hardly looked like they had made a dent, because they do give you a fair amount of food, they do not cheat one on this. Needless to say they took half the plate home. Our server Summer was super friendly and was quick to get our beers (they serve very cold beers, including delicious and locally-made Church Music IPA) and I also enjoyed a large and tasty Michelada. We had a wonderful lunch and I highly recommend the Tav.

We called ahead and reserved a table (I recommend doing this), our server was new and very nice and attentive. I ordered the chicken fajita bowl, large portions, filling and full of flavor. We also ordered the BYOB burger, it was a standard burger and fry set up. Burger was handmade and bigger than the bun, seasoned well and the cheese was melted. Overall, better than a bar burger and better than a standard restaurant burger. Would definitely order it again. Also ordered the chicken tacos, the corn tortillas were spot on, the chicken was seasoned and juicy, would order this again and again! I would definitely recommend coming here for their food. The seating is pretty cozy in one area of the bar and a bit special near the pool table. They also offer daily food and drinks specials.

Dive bar vibes. The dishwasher needs a deep cleaning, it has smelt horrible for over a year now. The water tasted a bit like tea, which really concerned me, but I drank it lol. Tenders are always super kind. Small place. One pool table. Two dart boards. A couple tvs one is always playing sports and a couple other games. Overall aight. Good prices!
